Here's Another Popular Budgeting Rule: But How Closely Should You Follow It?

Have you heard of the 50/30/20 rule? 📢

This is a rather popular tip if you need a reference when it comes to budgeting.

The beauty in the 50/30/20 rule lies in its simplicity.

It's designed for anyone who wants to track their spending without dividing each expense into many categories.

Here's a pie chart that illustrates how you can use the 50/30/20 rule in your life:

After I shared a post on the 50/30/20 rule on my Instagram profile, I received quite a few responses.

Here are a couple of them:

➡️"I’m saving 50%! So can I spend more?"

➡️"Oh no, I’m not even saving 10%. What should I do?"

I want to take this chance to assure you that the 50/30/20 rule is really just a guide.

How much an individual earns is largely tied to the industry(s) they are in. Similarly, how much one spends is often not just limited to their personal expenses. Some may need to help out at home etc.

Perhaps like me, you also realise there will be a day we will have to stop working. And for those who took the time to sort out their finances early, they will be in a privileged position to decide WHEN they can do so, on their own terms.

The question is HOW? 💭

💡Here are two tips on how you can grow your savings.

As with all financial strategies, there is no one way or magic bullet in doing things. The best way / solution is the one that solves your immediate challenge(s).
